What is the Technovation Girls Challenge?
Technovation Girls is a global development challenge. In the state of Minnesota, Code Savvy manages the local program for girls and non-binary students across the state.
For 12 weeks between January and April, teams work with dedicated mentors to ideate, plan, develop, and pitch a mobile application or AI technology project that solves a community issue that the teams have identified. These projects can be iterated over a number of years, and ideally, monetized so the teams can experience entrepreneurship through technology. The way this work happens is extremely flexible: in-school, after-school, home-school, in-person, or remote - it's up to the teams and their mentors to find the ways that work best for them to work together most effectively.
Code Savvy provides workshops, mentor matching, and overall program tech support to the teams over the entire course of the program. Then, in May, local judging occurs with the teams participating in a live pitch event and award ceremony.
The lessons learned and confidence built through participating in the Technovation Challenge is immeasurable, and many of the students go on to pursue higher education and careers in Computer Science and other STEM fields.
