Technovation[MN] empowers girls to build technology to make an impact on their communities. We provide free curriculum, mentor guidance, educational resources, and encouragement for girls ages 10-18. Our Technovation Girls and Amazon’s Alexa Skills Challenge: Life Hacks programs benefit beginner to advanced computer science students, and with the development of business cases and pitches, have attracted and successfully engaged girls who have a peripheral interest in STEM.

 

Our mission: Change the demographic landscape in technology fields by fostering entrepreneurship in girls across Minnesota. We are here to bring technology and entrepreneurial programs to girls to spark interest, build technical and entrepreneurial knowledge, and develop confidence.

Technovation[MN] is a Code Savvy program. Code Savvy is dedicated to ensuring the next generation of computer science professionals is representative of the billions of users of tomorrow’s innovative technologies. We’re on a mission to empower all youth and educators with the knowledge, skills, and support to create with technology, all while working to interrupt and counteract the existing gender, racial, and economic gaps in computing. We work towards this goal by creating opportunities for hands-on, equitable computer science learning experiences that inspire all learners to transform the future for good. Our programs include Technovation[MN], Educator Training and School Partnerships, CoderDojo TC, Code Camps, and Code Clubs.

 

Position Summary:

In this role, you will lead an organization that helps girls discover their potential and encourage them to engage with their community in ways they haven’t before. You will show girls that they belong in technology, that they can be founders of businesses, and that they are important to the future of everyone.

The Program Director will facilitate the overall mission of Technovation[MN] through program development, recruitment, volunteer development, financial management, and partnerships with related organizations. These activities include management and administration of the strategic plan and organizational goals, leadership, coordination, and evaluation of all program initiatives, recruitment of girls, mentors, volunteers, community engagement, supporting revenue generation, and fiscal management.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Direct and oversee the execution of year-round workshops and events that meet organizational objectives and that support grant and sponsor funding opportunities.

  • Initiate, develop, and direct relationships with strategic partners to enhance programming and extend our reach.

  • Identify, plan and oversee Technovation[MN] program growth and development.

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of annual plans.

  • Direct marketing and promotion to meet registration and participation goals.

  • Develop and manage budgets, identifying opportunities for growth and cost containment, and ensuring revenue and expense targets are met.

  • Manage volunteer Committee Chairs from onboarding through the tenure of their service.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with colleagues across Code Savvy programs to leverage their talent and expertise and cohesively advocate for all its programs. Actively participate in Code Savvy all-staff meetings.

  • Serve as a highly effective communicator, connector, and leader with the ability to articulate Technovation[MN] and Code Savvy’s desired image and position to both internal and external audiences.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience managing projects and/or programs of varying complexity and size, and budget 

  • Experience with common software platforms (Cloud collaborative platforms, customer relationship management software, and financial management software) 

  • Supervisory/management experience 

  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills

  • Strong public speaking skills: proficiency to craft and deliver effective, engaging, and mission-aligned presentations to diverse audiences 


 

 Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Tech-savvy: awareness and a general understanding of applications such as mobile apps, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, drones, various coding languages, etc.

  • Work experience in a volunteer organization preferably in the field of youth program development and delivery or volunteer services in a non-profit environment

  • Experience with volunteer recruitment and management 

  • Experience in event planning, development, marketing, and social media

  • Experience developing and managing funded programs and working with sponsors and grant funders

  • Knowledge and experience in working with diverse communities and managing diverse staff
