Whether it is a couple of hours at an after-school program, a virtual code club on a Saturday afternoon, or a two-year term on our Board of Directors, we have volunteer opportunities for everyone!
Being a Code Savvy mentor means building skills, nurturing ingenuity, and instilling confidence in the next generation of innovators. Join us in helping teach and encourage kids to solve problems creatively while opening doors for their future.
Is volunteering right for me?
Some mentors have a background in computer science, but many do not. Regardless of background, all of our mentors offer kids access to a role model and stories of real-world experiences. Mentors might not know the answer to every question the kids ask, but they’re there to discover the answer together.
Which programs can I support?
We are also always looking for Mentors or Volunteers for our programs, including:
- Technovation Challenge: Technovation Girls, managed by Code Savvy in Minnesota, is a 12-week program where girls and non-binary students develop tech projects addressing community issues. Volunteers can mentor teams or serve as judges for the final pitches, with flexible in-person or remote options.
- Code Explorers: Code Explorers is a free program where students ages 8+ can explore computer science with the help of industry mentors. Volunteers can mentor students in Scratch, Python, Thunkable, or Web Development, either in-person at Minneapolis College or virtually.
- Educator Cohort: The Code Savvy Educator Cohort is an application-based program for Minnesota educators to develop technical and pedagogical skills in computer science. We seek speakers with experience in CS education or industry to share insights and inspire educators as they work to expand equitable and engaging CS opportunities for students across the state.
- Annual Educator Summit: The Educator Summit is an annual computer science conference for Minnesota educators to explore the latest in technology and CS education. We’re seeking keynote speakers, session presenters, and logistics coordinators to help make this event impactful and successful.
- Event Volunteer: Code Savvy participates in various in-person and virtual events, and we need volunteers to help with roles like taking attendance, managing tables, handing out swag, and more. Join us in supporting these events and making them run smoothly!
If there’s another program or role that excites you, we’d love to connect you with something that matches your interest.
