Whether it is a couple of hours at an after-school program, a virtual code club on a Saturday morning, or a two-year term on our Board of Directors, we have volunteer opportunities for everyone!

Being a Code Savvy volunteer means building skills, nurturing ingenuity, and instilling confidence in the next generation of innovators. Join us in helping teach and encourage kids to solve problems creatively while opening doors for their future.

Is volunteering right for me?

Some mentors have a background in computer science, but many do not. Regardless of background, all of our mentors offer kids access to a role model and stories of real-world experiences. Mentors might not know the answer to every question the kids ask, but they’re there to discover the answer together.

For background check purposes, volunteers must be 18 or older and based in the United States. Mentors MUST pass a background check before attending any Code Savvy event.

Which programs can I support?

We’re always looking for mentors and volunteers to support Code Savvy programs in Minnesota. Whether you’re interested in working directly with students, supporting educators, or helping at events, there are many ways to get involved.

Technovation Girls Minnesota

Technovation Girls Minnesota is a 12-week program where girls and non-binary students develop tech projects that address community issues. Volunteers can mentor teams or serve as judges for final pitches, with flexible in-person or remote options.

Code Explorers

Code Explorers is a free program where students ages 8+ explore computer science with the help of mentors. Volunteers can support students in Scratch, Python, and more, either in person or virtually.

Event Volunteer

Code Savvy participates in a variety of in-person and virtual events, and we need volunteers to help with roles like taking attendance, managing tables, handing out swag, and more. Join us in supporting these events and helping them run smoothly.

Mentor a Technovation Girls Minnesota Team

Help girls and non-binary students turn big ideas into real-world technology solutions. Technovation Girls Minnesota mentors support teams as they identify a community problem, develop an app or AI solution, and prepare to share their work.

You do not need to be a professional programmer to mentor. Mentors help teams stay on track, work through challenges, find resources, and build the confidence to bring their ideas to life.

Guide a Team Support students throughout the Technovation season as they build and refine their project.
Share Your Skills Bring experience in technology, education, business, design, project management, or problem-solving.
